I visit the wildlife area in April and May. The parking lot is next to the squishy marsh. You hike through the high reeds and willows to a bottomland woods. Underneath the canopy of the woods is an emerald green carpet of grass and moss. Many different wildflowers grow here as well as mushrooms. When the Skunk River floods the area is completely covered in water, sometimes reaching the adjacent Interstate 80 and cutting off the road.
