Poem from the book {The Lion and the Sun} by Troy Richard Thomas

California girl asks me what country I am from?

Apparently I have quite a foreign accent

I tell her I am from the country of "Iowa" mamm

A land of corn and soybeans with more pigs than people

With buzzards that soar over head, with purple hippos and pink giraffes roaming the emerald hills and valleys

With rivers that flow of wine and a people who canoe them naked

Where my people bicycle from one end of the country to the border of the Mississippi River

It sounds so beautiful says the California girl

I have never heard of this country, where is it she asks?

It's a magical land mamm, a land between to Great Rivers.
