Often on the trail in the Northern wilds of Minnesota and Canada you will see beavers eating grilled cheese sandwiches. Sometimes they can be found in their wood huts eating their sandwich while watching satellite tv.

Niobrara River Valentine, Nebraska the Sandhills prairie region.  I had a nice canoe trip on this river, Part of the Western Great Plains. The surrounding prairie landscape was very beautiful. Bison, Long Horn Cattle, prickly pear cactus and other short grass land flowers.

Kayaker on the Upper Iowa by Artist Troy Richard Thomas

The river was up to five feet in depth, usually it runs one to two feet. I kind of liked it at 5, it was fast and no getting out of the boat and walking the riffle sets. Though at 1, or 2 you can relax more, and there is some fun in walking the river for awhile. Later that week the river flooded out at 10 to 15 feet. Flooded out the campground we stayed at in Bluffton, and flooded the Brewery in Decorah that we enjoyed the night before.
